What do you get from an AI voice detector tool?

An AI voice detector helps you look beyond how convincing a recording sounds. When you scan an audio file with Diopter, you get clear results backed by evidence:

Instant verdict: See whether the recording is Likely Synthetic or Real (no AI).

Confidence and detection score: Understand how strongly the detected signals support the result.

Suspect regions: Identify parts of the audio where potential synthetic signals were detected.

Detailed report: Review analysis details when you need to investigate the result further.

What does the confidence score mean?

The confidence and detection score, along with the overview of the suspect region, provide additional context when a recording needs closer review.

Diopter recommends placing results with 80% confidence or higher on hold for further action, and results between 50% and 79% confidence are recommended for review.

What does an AI audio detector listen for?

Synthetic speech can sound natural to the human ear but may still contain subtle characteristics that distinguish it from a real recording. An AI speech detector can examine these patterns at a level that is difficult to assess through human listening.

Diopter analyzes characteristics including spectral features, formants, pitch patterns, micro-timing and artifacts below human hearing, along with patterns associated with synthetic voice generation.

How AI audio detection works

Diopter reviews your audio across three simple steps:

File upload

Add an MP3, WAV or M4A file of up to 200 MB. Submit the recording for analysis and get a result in under a minute.

Signal analysis

The detector examines the recording across multiple audio signals rather than relying on how natural the voice sounds.

Spectral
Analyzes spectral characteristics, formants and pitch patterns that can reveal differences in synthetic speech.
Vocal
Examines micro-timing and artifacts that may be difficult for human listeners to detect.
Generator
Checks for signatures associated with known synthetic voice systems, including ElevenLabs, XTTS, RVC and other models.

Get verdict

The analysis returns a verdict along with a detection score and confidence level.

AI voice models covered by the detector

AI-generated voices can be produced using different models. Diopter's detector is trained against outputs from popular synthetic-voice models and is updated as the generator technology evolves.

Our current coverage includes ElevenLabs, XTTS and RVC, among other synthetic voice models.

When should you run an AI audio check?

An AI voice check tool can be useful whenever the identity or authenticity of a voice matters to a business decision.

Suspicious executive voice messages

Check a voice recording that appears to come from an executive, especially if it contains unusual requests, approvals or instructions to follow.

Payment and approval requests

Before acting on a voice recording that asks for a payment or approvals, use an AI audio check as an additional verification step.

Candidate recordings

Check candidate-submitted voice recordings to verify if the recording is genuine or synthetic.

KYC and customer verification

Use the tool during customer onboarding or identity verification if a voice sample forms part of the verification process.

Contact center interactions

Contact center teams can check suspicious recordings for signs of voice cloning or synthetic speech.

Why is AI voice detection useful for business and verification teams?

Voice cloning can make a fraudulent request sound like it came from someone the recipient already trusts.

In 2020, criminals used a cloned voice to impersonate a company director and convinced a company’s branch manager in Hong Kong to approve transfers of as much as $35 million. Investigators later found the voice had been cloned, but only after the money had moved.

Deloitte’s Center for Financial Services projects US fraud losses involving generative AI could reach $40 billion by 2027, compared with $12.3 billion in 2023.

Why use the Diopter AI voice detector

The Diopter AI voice detector combines fast analysis with evidence that helps teams understand the next steps.

Results are returned in under 60 seconds, and your first detection is free with no sign-up required.

The detector also looks beyond the words spoken and analyzes the vocal structures, pitch shifts and spectral characteristics that may indicate synthetic speech.

Yes. Diopter can analyze short audio clips as long as they are in a supported format and within the 200 MB limit.

The detector scores the whole recording. If only part of it shows synthetic signals, you'll see that in the suspect regions and a lower confidence level, which warrants a review.

Yes. The detector supports audio across different languages and accents, as the focus is on voice characteristics and synthetic patterns rather than the words being spoken.
